MTHR exposure systems SAR distributions

The SAR plots in figures 3 to 15 show SARs from the GSM and TETRA handsets operated at full power together with those for the handsets operated in sham (CW) mode at full power. The data are presented on both linear and logarithmic (dB) scales. The linear plots are shown twice. In one case the whole range of SARs is displayed while the second just shows the values below 1 W/kg (6x10-4 W/kg for the shams).   The computer software used to measure and display the SAR distributions indicates SAR in the unit mW/g;  this is equivalent to the more common unit W/kg.

An image of the GSM or TETRA device has been superimposed on each plot in order to provide scale and orientation for the SAR plots.

The measurements were made in a SAM phantom head over a 36 by 17 measurement grid, with 5 mm spacing, using the standard CENELEC device position and measurement procedures.  The data are localised SAR values at the inner surface of the phantom. Figure 1 shows a SAM phantom head with a SAR distribution superimposed, in the approximate measurement position. (Since the inner surface of the phantom is curved, the distribution of values also lie on a curved surface as illustrated in Figure 2 and the values in Figures 1, and 3 to 15, were obtained by projecting them onto a flat plane.)

The 10 g averaged SARs for each exposure (GSM full power, sham etc) are determined by making more detailed SAR measurements over an approximately cubic volume enclosing the localised SAR peak of the distributions shown in figures 3 to 15.  (It can be seen that the maximum localised (point) SAR is around 5 W/kg. However the maximum 10 g averaged SAR is 1.4 W/kg)
